Festival Quijote

Ideas and To-Do List for Teachers
Now!
Talk about Festival Quijote. Tap into your students' creative side by
asking them to share their talents and interests outside of Spanish class.
Many times the students who really shine are those who are least confident
in their Spanish skills but find success, motivation, and enjoyment through
their other strengths and interests!
Create a class project conducive to entering at Festival Quijote.
Adapt the rubrics as you'd like for your own grading purposes. Encourage
or require all students to participate in at least one entry. Or hold your own
"mini-Festival Quijote" in your classroom or at your school, sponsoring the
top entrants at the Festival Quijote!
Mid-February
Students choose a category to enter.
Work on Videos, Children's Literature, and T-Shirt Designs. These
need to be submitted by March 14 for judging prior to the day of the event.
There, the Children's Literature and T-Shirt Designs will be displayed and
Videos scrolled for viewing throughout the day.
Print Entry Forms and have students complete them to build your list of
participants.
Start collecting entry fees: $6 per student (not per entry), or free with the
NSE.
Consider transportation. Many metro students will have other events
going on and will want to arrange their own rides. You may want to
encourage carpools; this is a good option to avoid the cost and protocol of
using a school bus or van. These and other parents and family members are
encouraged to participate in the day's activities and watch performances!
On the other hand, using a bus is a fun way for your students to bond and
share the experience.
